Connect Hyperliquid (create an API Wallet)

Updated: 07/24/2026 · 4 min read

Hyperliquid uses a Web3 wallet (e.g. MetaMask) instead of a password login. For AlphaSet to place trades on your behalf, Hyperliquid lets you create an API Wallet (also called an agent wallet) - this wallet can only sign trade orders, never withdraw funds. Your assets always stay in your main Web3 wallet.

Your funds always stay in your Hyperliquid wallet. AlphaSet never holds your assets. The API Wallet has no withdrawal access - you can revoke it anytime and the Engine stops immediately.

Before you start

  • A Web3 wallet (MetaMask recommended) and a funded Hyperliquid account. Hyperliquid is a DEX - no KYC required.
  • Minimum capital for Alpha Crypto: $500 in your Hyperliquid trading (perps) balance.
  • The Engine manages your connected account's entire trading balance, up to your plan's capital cap - any excess sits idle, fee-free. To keep part of your capital aside, hold it in another wallet or account.
  • You'll need 3 pieces of info to connect: your Web3 Wallet Address, API Wallet Address, and API Wallet Private Key.

Step 1 - Log in and copy your Web3 wallet address

Open app.hyperliquid.xyz → connect your Web3 wallet (MetaMask). Click your wallet address in the top-right corner to copy it - this is your Web3 Wallet Address, needed in the final step.

Step 2 - Open the API page

In the top navigation, hover over More → select API (or go directly to app.hyperliquid.xyz/API).

Step 3 - Generate an API Wallet

  1. In the name field on the left, enter a memorable name, e.g. "AlphaSet".
  2. Click Generate - Hyperliquid creates a new API Wallet Address (shown in the adjacent field). Copy this address.
  3. Click the teal Authorize API Wallet button.

Step 4 - Confirm and save the Private Key

  1. An authorization pop-up appears. In the Days Valid field, click MAX to set the longest period (usually 180 days) - so you don't have to recreate it often.
  2. Click Authorize.
  3. Your MetaMask wallet pops up asking you to sign - sign the transaction to confirm.
  4. ⚠️ Crucial: after signing, a red box shows the API Wallet's Private Key. Copy it right now - once the window closes you can never see it again. If you lose it, you'll have to create a new API Wallet.

Step 5 - Paste into AlphaSet and connect

In AlphaSet → Connect exchange screen → select Hyperliquid → paste all 3 fields:

  • Web3 Wallet Address - your main wallet address (Step 1).
  • API Wallet Address - the API Wallet address you just created (Step 3).
  • API Wallet Private Key - the private key from the red box (Step 4).

Click Connect (Test Connection). Your Private Key is stored with AES-256 encryption, decrypted only at execution time.

Step 6 - Done

When you see the "Hyperliquid is integrating" message, click Continue. That's it - your balance and Alpha will appear on your dashboard once integration completes.

Important notes

  • The API Wallet cannot withdraw. Unlike a centralized exchange (where you must turn off the Withdraw permission yourself), a Hyperliquid API Wallet is trade-only by design - it cannot withdraw or move assets out of your wallet.
  • The key expires (max ~180 days). As it nears expiry, AlphaSet reminds you to recreate the API Wallet so the Engine keeps running. Pick MAX in Step 4 to reduce how often.
  • Hyperliquid has no trading-fee cashback for now. Cashback (30/35/40% by plan) currently applies to centralized exchanges like BingX; Hyperliquid is a DEX with a different fee model, so cashback does not apply for now. All other plan benefits still apply.
  • On Air: 1 exchange × 1 Alpha; Plus: up to 2 exchanges × 2 Alphas - if you pick Hyperliquid for Alpha Crypto, that's one of your exchanges. Beyond your plan's limit → upgrade to Pro/Max.
  • Revoke anytime: go to Hyperliquid's API page → delete/deauthorize the API Wallet. The Engine stops placing orders immediately; any open positions remain in your wallet for you to manage.
