Manage only part of my balance?

Updated: 07/24/2026 · 3 min read

AlphaSet has no "manage only $X, leave the rest alone" mode. This article explains why, and how you can still keep part of your assets outside the Alpha.

The Engine uses the full trading balance

  • To operate correctly, the Quant Engine manages the entire balance in the connected account's trading wallet (Spot or Futures, depending on the Alpha), sizing what it manages up to your plan's cap - any excess sits idle, fee-free.
  • The Engine rebalances the portfolio toward the Alpha's target allocation - meaning it may buy/sell assets in the trading wallet.
  • Note: if your trading wallet already holds coins (e.g. ETH, XRP, ADA…), the Engine may sell them during rebalancing to match the Alpha's target allocation.
  • Implication: anything left in the trading wallet is treated as the Alpha's capital.

To keep some aside → move it out of the trading wallet

You have two common ways to keep assets out of the Engine's reach.

Option 1: Move to a non-trading wallet on the same exchange

Most exchanges have sections not used for trading:

  • Funding Account
  • Earn / Savings products (staking, savings)

Move assets into these sections → they leave the trading balance → the Engine won't see or use them.

Option 2: Move to another wallet or account

  • Another exchange account
  • A sub-account on the same exchange (not connected to the Alpha)
  • Your personal crypto wallet

Once moved, the assets no longer appear in the connected trading wallet → the Engine won't include them in the Alpha.

Example

Say your exchange account holds $10,000. You want the Engine to manage only $8,000 and keep $2,000 in stablecoins for market opportunities.

→ Move that $2,000 to a Funding wallet, Earn account, or another account. The Engine will then manage only the remaining $8,000 in the trading wallet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Engine use all the funds in my trading wallet? Yes. The Quant Engine uses the full balance in the connected Spot/Futures wallet (up to your plan's cap). Assets left in the trading wallet may be used during rebalancing.

Can I keep stablecoins in my trading wallet without the Engine using them? No. Stablecoins left in the trading wallet may be used during rebalancing. To keep them aside → move them to a Funding wallet, Earn account, or another account.

Will the Engine sell coins I already hold? Possibly. If your wallet holds ETH, XRP, ADA, or other coins, the Engine may sell them during rebalancing to match the Alpha's target allocation.

How do I keep some capital outside the Alpha? Move it to: another exchange account, a sub-account, a personal crypto wallet, or a non-trading wallet (Funding/Earn). Assets outside the trading wallet won't be used by the Engine.

Can the Engine access or withdraw my funds? No. The Engine only places orders via the trading API (or the SACO trading authorization for Alpha Stock VN) - it has no withdrawal permission. Your assets always remain under your control and responsibility.

Relation to plan caps

To be clear: even if your trading-wallet balance is over your plan's cap, there's still no fee. The Engine just manages up to the cap, and the excess stays on your exchange. Moving assets out of the trading wallet (as above) is about keeping some funds completely outside the Engine's reach, not about avoiding a fee. See also [[aum-caps-per-alpha]].

Your funds always stay on your own exchange. AlphaSet never holds your assets.
